Legendary Musicals Around the World: Creation and Evolution.

Lisa Monde continues her series of publications (started back in 2022) with The Theatre Times Digital Portal, dedicated to the anniversaries of legendary musicals from around the world.

Having paid tribute to the famous musicals that celebrated their anniversaries in 2025, such as "Beauty and the Beast", "The Lion King", and "Aladdin", Lisa published several articles featuring interviews with the renowned lyricist Tim Rice, as well as composer Alan Menken.

Rock Opera, being a separate genre of musical theatre, was highlighted by Lisa in a special article-discussion, where a famous rock musician, guitarist, composer, and producer, Lenny Kaye, talked about the present, past, and future of rock music in musical theatre.

Lisa made a special trip to Spain, where she attended the grand premiere of the future legendary musical - "The Pillars of the Earth", based on Ken Follett’s famous novel of the same name. The conversation with the leading Spanish composer, Ivan Macías, followed by an interview with the creator of the story – Ken Follett himself, sheds light on the issue of how a literary work can be transferred into a different medium, how music can “build a cathedral” and touch people’s hearts, no matter where they come from.

The readers were given an opportunity not only to learn about the musical "The Pillars of the Earth", but also to find out about Spanish musical theatre and its evolution.

New York is the city of bright musicals and unforgettable productions. Broadway welcomes newcomers but also keeps its traditions. In 2025, we also proudly celebrated the 145th anniversary of Gilbert and Sullivan’s musical comedy, "The Pirates of Penzance". The new revival “Pirates! The Penzance Musical”, featuring Ramin Karimloo as the Pirate King, demonstrated the transformation of an operetta into a contemporary musical.
