Life Mirror: A Life in Your Own Voice

Life Mirror is a voice-first app that helps people receiving end-of-life care preserve the stories only they can tell, in their own words and voice.



The design grew from interviews with 23 people receiving end-of-life care, aged 56 to 76. They wanted to hold onto memories and choices while they could, but illness, pain and treatment often made writing and organizing feel exhausting. They welcomed practical help from AI, as long as it did not replace real relationships or create a digital version of them.



Life Mirror begins like a natural interview. People can speak, pause and return when they have the energy. The app remembers what they have already shared and helps connect their words with photographs, recordings and people in their lives.



One conversation might begin with a daughter, lead to a summer in Yellowstone and recall the red jacket worn in every photograph. Life Mirror can help locate that image or ask a family member to contribute it through a private link. The conversation and photograph then become a story draft that the person can review, edit and save.



The finished story keeps the real photographs, direct quotes and original recorded voice together. The person can return to it themselves and decide who may experience it later.



For someone nearing the end of life, Life Mirror offers a gentle way to keep reflecting and telling their story. For their family, it preserves not simply what happened, but how that person chose to remember it.
